How to Download PC Games

   Locate the PC game you are interested in downloading.

   • Games that can be downloaded can be found either by searching for the name of the game or by checking its publisher's website.
   • There are services that sell PC games for download with their own installation software.

   Compare the required and recommended specifications of the game to those of your machine. Your equipment may not be up to par for the intended experience, even if the game will still run on your computer.

   • You can check your system's specifications, including your DirectX version and video card, by using the DxDiag program. In XP, click Start, then Run, then type "dxdiag" in the box.
   • In Windows Vista or Windows 7, simply click Start and then type "dxdiag" in the search box.

   Click the "download game" link to the title you have chosen.

   • In most Internet browsers, you will receive a window asking you to either run or save an executable file with an extension of ".exe." Choose to save it to your desktop.
   • Specify where you want to save the file. You need to remember where you saved it to run the installation software. The most common places are your Windows desktop or in a downloads folder.

   Right-click on the executable file and choose the "run" option in the list of available commands.

   • You may not have the necessary authorization if you are not listed as an administrator on your PC. This will vary based on your version of Windows and your user account type.
   • The game's installer software will require you to determine where the game will be installed. With most versions of Windows, you should choose to install the game's components in its own folder within the C://program Files location.
   • Click "yes" if you're asked to allow the game to create either a desktop or Quick Launch icon.

   Launch the PC game by double-clicking the desktop or by left-clicking a Quick Launch shortcut.

   • Your PC game may require additional patches to be downloaded. If so, you will be prompted to do so.
   • Allow your machine to reboot as often as it requires. It may be removing temporary files that are only needed during the installation process.
